Blogging is so hot right now

Lacking in ideas for a creative title for tonight's blog. Meh.

Figured I'd get my blogging on since I had a pretty cool day even though I didn't do a whole lot. Did a little study, took in the company of my darling niece [when she wasn't crying], enjoyed the fresh [but hella cold] air while watching 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' at King George Square and tried [but failed completely] at playing Wii games at Anne's brother's place.

Also finished off my nails with a little top coat. This is my colour of choice at the moment:

I think I had a run of good luck today. Firstly, both the teams I tipped for footy won. I also finally stopped playing the waiting game and found out the date of my special exam.
Wednesday 21st July at 8am.

HELL YEAH!!! I guess UQ's good to me after all by not getting in the way of my Sydney trip!!! Now I gotta make sure I don't get stuck in traffic AGAIN and that this trip is le awesome since I seem to be missing out on a fair few events. Why must everything fall on those few days?! *sighs*

I only have a few days left of holidays and I have to say, this is possibly the best holiday I've had. Despite it being cut short due to my special exam and doing 2 subjects at QUT this semester, it's been a blast. I never would have guessed that my holiday would be filled with such variety, such unexpected news and such a weird, twisted turn of events.

Looking back at what I wanted for the rest of this holiday:
~ Argentina didn't end up winning the World Cup but I guess I'm glad Germany didn't win either.
~ I got my special exam on the 21st of July. Now I just gotta ace it.
~ My finances are on its way back on track and the money is flowing in. Love it.
~ I got the marks I wanted pending what I get for this special exam.
~ My room isn't yet clean but I'm planning to get to it after I wake up.
~ Something unexpected did happen. And not just to me. Now just gotta wait and see how this situation works out. Stay tuned!!!

OK, better get some shut eye. There was a reason I didn't go clubbing tonight.

Baby I'm getting better...

The title of today's blog serves 2 purposes:
1. To highlight that I'm actually recovering from my minor illness [Frick on a stick, I'm sick for the third time this year... it's a record!!!]
2. To let the world know that the new and improved me is back and better than ever!!!

So the title of today's blog [as are a lotta my blog titles] comes from a song by Gyroscope. Unlike the song, I don't owe my change in outlook to a single person in particular, but a few people who've put a lotta things into perspective for me. And for that, I'd like to say a few brief thank yous.

+ Thanks for being my kindred spirit. It's freakishly cool knowing that there's actually people out there who just get me and who I can just get.

+ Thanks for reminding me that it's OK to be emotionally vulnerable and that there's always a positive way of looking at a seemingly negative situation.

+ Thanks for not letting time ruin what an awesome bond we have.

+ Thanks for always saving me from myself and knowing the right things to say.

+ Thanks for just being you. It's good to know that some things don't ever change after all this time we've known each other.

+ Thanks for being a breath of fresh air and expanding my horizons. It's great to know that there are people out there who do live outside the square.

+ Thanks for listening and for looking out for me. We may not always see eye to eye about everything, but knowing you care and take time out for me is always appreciated.

On a related note, thanks to the encouragement of family and friends plus a bit of self-motivation, I've been trying to get my life re-sorted. I've already started by cleaning up my closet and bathroom [still got the lounge and bedroom to go] and trying to take regular walks. Once my financial situation is back on track, I can get around to sorting my money-related things like debts and finally saving up for a trip at the end of the year!! Don't worry, I have it all written down on my to-do list for the rest of 2010 =)

Would like to babble on some more but my attention span in writing blogs seems to get shorter and shorter at the years go by. I'll leave my dear readers with a recommended movie: 500 Days of Summer!!! Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a while and quite a frontrunner as one of my fave films. Highly recommended for those who want a movie outta the ordinary and want a movie that actually speaks to reality and to the heart. Watch it!!! Do ittttttttttt *shakes fist*

THE HOLIDAY MADNESS!!!

So I'm into Week 2 of my holiday and I have to say so far, it's been HELLA AWESOME!! In the span of nearly 2 weeks, I've done the following [in no particular order]:

1. Gone clubbing [and in the midst of it, watched the Brazil-Portugal game]

Check me out... I'm a nerd!! And I'm drinking!!! *shock horror*

2. Watched 'Shrek 4' and 'Toy Story 3' in 3D. Feel like such a kid again.
3. I've drank chai tea [TWICE!!] at 3 Monkeys. Love love love that place.
4. Bought tickets to Owl City. It's not 'til November so I'm gonna cry if I end up having an exam that night.
5. Finally went to a football game and sat right at the 50m line. Great view and great atmosphere!! Would've been better if Broncos won though =( Stupid last min try!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Went to Ron Mueck and even got to check out parts of the Art Gallery. Love getting my art on.

Being tourists outside GOMA... love it!

7. Have watched more sports than you can poke a stick at. World Cup, rugby league, Wimbledon, you name it, I've probably watched it.
8. Caught up with a fair few of my friends.

Still so much to look forward to. Things are looking up for me!!

What will REALLY make my holiday is:
~ if Argentina win their game tonight. GO ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~ if I get my special exam on the 21st July.
~ if I can get my finances back on track.
~ if I get the marks I want on Wednesday.
~ if I can get my room clean. Like CLEAN.
~ if something unexpected happens. In a good way of course. Could do with a good twist of fate.

I'm on such a high right now. Might be 'cause I'm cranking 'Fireflies' by Owl City on repeat.

Movie/K-Drama reviews II

1. My Girl [마이걸]

Starring: Lee Da Hae, Lee Dong Wook, Lee Jun Ki, Park Shi Yeon

Short and sweet: A girl is hired to be a guy's long lost cousin and they end up falling in love with each other. This sounds really incestuous but remember, they're PRETENDING okies?

I found it incredibly sweet and so good to watch. I was pretty hooked on this series from the beginning and I can see why people thought this was so good. Plus Lee Dong Wook's in it and that's enough reason to watch it if you're a girl XD
Rating: 10/10

2. A Moment of Romance [天若有情]

Starring: Andy Lau [劉德華], Wu Chien Lien [吳倩蓮]
Short and sweet: A bikie takes a girl hostage during a robbery and through a series of events, the pair fall in love. Don't watch this if you don't like sad endings. And before you kill me for pretty much giving away the ending, doesn't the title of the movie give things away already?

I've watched this movie a million times and even though I cry pretty much every time I watch it, it's just really, really good. The story is good, the acting is good and all the action, drama and romance is to the point. Even though this movie is nearly 20 years old, it's definitely recommended for guys and girls.
Rating: 10/10

3. A Moment of Romance 2 [
天若有情 II 之天長地久
]

Starring: Aaron Kwok [郭富城], Wu Chien Lien [吳倩蓮]
Short and sweet: A bikie saves a girl who's been framed for murder and through a series of events, they fall in love. If you've seen the first movie, it's much of the same thing. Guy meets girl through chance, guy saves girl again and again, guy and girl fall for each other, bad things happen in the end.

This movie doesn't really compare to the first. Andy was really badass in the first movie whilst Aaron's too much of a softie in this one. It's still alright, but just disappointing when compared to the first movie.
Rating: 6.5/10

4. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, a whole bunch of Autobots and Decepticons
Short and sweet: To keep it really short and [not so] sweet, it does not even compare to the first movie. I could waste quite a bit of this blog bitching about how crap this movie was, but I'll just talk about the good points.

The soundtrack is pretty good and the CGI effects [which I'm pretty sure most of the budget was spent on since everything else is pretty messed up] are pretty cool too. Other than that, I'm pretty much ignoring the fact that this film exists in the Transformers series. Good luck with the third one.
Rating: 2/10 [1 for the soundtrack, 1 for the CGI effects]

5. Night at the Museum 2

Starring: Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Owen Wilson
Short and sweet: Ben Stiller goes to another museum and has all these random adventures with the museum exhibits from the first film. If you've seen the first movie, it's pretty much the same deal.

I quite liked the first movie when I watched it at the cinema and I'm usually pretty skeptical about sequels [see 'A Moment of Romance 2' and 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen']. Surprisingly, this film's just as good as the original. If you didn't like the first film, you won't like this one.
Rating: 8/10

6. Bruno

Starring: Sacha Baron Cohen [whoops, I mean Bruno XD]
Short and sweet: Bruno, a gay fashion reporter, tries to make it big in Hollywood. While trying to do that, he offends a lotta people along the way. If you've seen 'Borat', you'll have an idea of the humour in this movie. It's pretty much the gay version XD

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Borat' when I saw it a few years back and I was expecting this to be good. And it was!! I laughed so much throughout this movie, especially the part where he's promoting his show to the producers. Priceless stuff!! Totally recommended if you're not offended easily but I'm taking 1 off 'cause there's no real memorable quotes like in 'Borat' =(
Rating: 9/10

7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson
Short and sweet: I didn't really pay proper attention to the movie but from what I gathered, it's about finding out who the Half Blood Prince is, something about Horcruxes, watching Draco Malfoy being emo and creepy and watching the love triangles between Harry-Ginny-Dean and Hermione-Ron-Lavender.

I dunno what to say about this film. According to those who've read the book, the film actually stays pretty true to the book. Having known that, I'm a bit put off reading the book 'cause I found the movie quite boring. It's definitely funny in parts [whether intentional or unintentional] and it's definitely the sussest Harry Potter film so far.
Rating: 6/10 [I'll update it after I read the book]

Don't worry, my blog is still alive...

I know it's been a while. Time to give my blog some much needed love...

Holidays are nearly ending and I'm actually really sad about it. I'll wait 'til the end of the holidays to blog about it since there's still a few events coming up but it's just been really, really, really great and really, really, really fun. Words and photos just can't describe it all.

I have a new celebrity crush: LEE DONG WOOK!!!

OMG, I couldn't stop perving on this guy while watching 'My Girl' and I became all giggly like a schoolgirl every time he had a love scene with Lee Da Hae *sighs* I don't think I've felt like this since seeing Daniel Wu in 'Love Undercover' back in high school hehe

In other news, I OFFICIALLY SUCK AT MAH JONG. I played 2 games of it this week and the 2nd time, I got owned in pretty much every game I played. If I played for money all nite, I'm pretty sure I would've lost all my money. Need practice!!!

Also watched 'Bruno' and 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' recently. I'll review the movies when I'm not half asleep.

Too lazy to update more. Just wanted an excuse to post a pic of Lee Dong Wook *giggles* I wanna marry him and have his babies!!!

Movie reviews

So I've been out and about watching a few movies and I've had my fair share of disappointments and surprises... here's my reviews:

1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I came into the cinema with the expectation that this movie would be at least half decent. Now that I think about it, it did meet my expectations 'cause the movie only ended up being half decent. Everything leading up to the ending was pretty good but for some stupid reason, everything went downhill as soon as he landed on the island. Some parts of the ending didn't make a whole lotta sense and the final fight scene between Wolverine, Sabretooth and Deadpool was complete epic fail. I'll give props for the scene where Hugh Jackman runs naked across a field and also jumps off a waterfall naked... hot stuff *wink wink* hehe For some reason, I couldn't stop giggling about this scene when I was telling people about it!!! I also give props for the Daniel Negreanu cameo [for the poker fans out there]. Anyway, I reckon this movie was hyped up way too much before it was released. Most will be disappointed.

2. Defiance

This was my surprise movie. I got called to watch this movie at the last minute and I figured I'd give it a chance since Daniel Craig was in it and I like the James Bond movies he's done so far. So after getting into the cinema about 15-20 minutes late, we missed the beginning of the movie so it took a little while to figure out what was going on. Once I did that, I got into the movie. Considering I hadn't even heard of the movie until I got called out to watch it, this movie turned out to be really good. It has a pretty good blend of action, drama and romance and it's not over the top either. On top of that, the guy who plays Sabretooth from 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' is in this movie too and I liked his character way more in this movie. I'm not usually a fan of war movies but I make the occasional exception. I made that exception for 'Life is Beautiful' and I'll make the exception here too. I highly recommend people go out and watch this movie.

3. Red Cliff [赤壁]

I read reviews on this movie before I watched it and it got pretty rave reviews. I'm not usually one to believe all the hype behind a movie 'cause more often than not, it turns out to be a huge disappointment. Not in this case. It's a John Woo film and anyone who knows John Woo knows he can make pretty epic films [except the ones he made in Hollywood, so I've heard]. The addition of Takeshi Kaneshiro [金城 武] and Tony Leung [梁朝偉] made it an even better watch 'cause I've been a long-time fan of both these actors. This was really well-made and I wish I wasn't half asleep when I watched it 'cause I think I might've missed out details here and there which would've helped my understanding of the story better. Make sure you're awake and willing to sit a while 'cause this movie is nearly 2.5 hours long and with the second part, it's around 5 hours long altogether [the movie's split up into 2 parts like 'Kill Bill']. I can't wait to watch how this ends. To be continued...

各位觀眾。。。四條七!!!

a friend of mine posted a note on facebook the other day completely written in Chinese [except for a couple of English words here and there] and even though i got the gist of everything she was talking about, i couldn't read everything character for character... and u know what i felt after reading that? 對自己... why? haven't really caught up with my Chinese lately and instead of getting better, it's getting worse... so to improve it again, i'm watching TVB dramas on youtube and maybe i'll start singing Chinese songs again when i'm at karaoke hehe

so what's with the title of my blog? for those who can't read Chinese, basically the title means "ladies and gentlemen... four 7's!!!" as far as i know, this phrase is meant to be a motivation for one of my law friends... and if she's reading this, i know she's capable of achieving that this sem... she's a very, very smart girl!!! should be a motivation for me too but i'm not smart enough to do THAT well with my subs even though i'm doing decently so far this sem...

u know what that phrase in the title of my blog reminds me of? if anyone's ever seen
賭俠
, there's a scene where 周星馳 and 吳孟達 go to see 劉德華 to show off 周星馳's special skills... after seeing 劉德華 carve out 4 aces with a knife, 周星馳 reaches into the pocket of 吳孟達 and announces: "各位觀眾... !" and instead of pulling out 5 aces, he pulls out 5 cigarettes XD for those of u who don't get the joke, the character for "aces" and "cigarettes" is exactly the same and is also pronounced the same... it's a freakin' hilarious scene hehe

okies, i have no idea what the point of this blog was... just procrastinating i guess hehe best of luck to everyone for exams...

Short[ish] and sweet

i'm at uni atm and i'm bored... *yawns*

gonna keep all my sentences in this blog short and sweet today 'cause i cbb writing a long essay of what i did like with my last blog and i'm sure i'd bore u guys out newayz hehe

i FINALLY watched Iron Man last nite!!

it was freakin' awesome... even watched the proper ending after the credits... thanks so much GY for taking me to see it... even after all the paying out about not having anyone to see it with hehe

i've been a bit PMSed lately... it's pretty hard to tell most of the time but when i'm at home, my feelings seem to be all outta whack... it sucks =(

spent 3 days straight working and it was actually quite fun despite the hustle and bustle... i've met a few of the newbies and they're quite nice... i enjoy the work atmosphere more now after more than 2 yrs working there hehe

it's fun messing with pplz's minds... after telling everyone i was engaged on MSN last week, i've been bombarded with msgs from pplz either congratulating me or telling me what a big idiot i am for getting engaged so early hehe

for those of u who dunno why i'm suddenly "engaged", it kinda sprang from a convo i had with CC last week... we were commenting about how pplz don't take their relationship statuses on facebook seriously so we figured we'd mess around by saying we were engaged... stay tuned... we'll probably be married soon =P

fave song of the moment: Elevator - Flo Rida feat. Timbaland "she's stuck on my ela-e-elevator"
man, that song is addictive!!! ^__^

a BBQ tomorrow, 21st on Fri, 21st on Sun and assignment due on Mon... i'm gonna be one busy girl this week!!!

okies, that's enough randomness from me today... have a good week everyone!!!

Random ramblings

i feel like writing a longish blog today so get ready for a lotta reading!! there's pics here too so it's prettied up a little hehe

so Easter has pretty much come and gone and it's been an enjoyable few days... Good Friday was spent hanging out with Kev and watching "The Other Boleyn Girl" which i thought was quite good... then off to Julie's for a nice bitching session hehe

Easter Saturday was spent working all day in Country Road which was pretty busy... pplz always tend to go crazy shopping after a big public holiday when all the shops r shut... it's as if they've been deprived of one shopping day and they have to make up for it by doubly shopping the next day... or it could just be 'cause there's a lotta sales around hehe

went to Cath's 21st afterwards and it was so beautiful... with the whole atmosphere, i felt like i was actually at her wedding instead... even her b'day cake looked like a wedding cake!! one part of her party involved 21 of the most important guys in her life giving her a rose and dancing with her whilst 21 of the most important girls in her life made a wish for her and lighted a candle on her cake... thinking i could try and be a bit different, i wished her good health [very Chinese New Year-ish but meh hehe] and a very long, fulfilling life... as well as getting a few invites to her celebrity parties hehe and of course, by special request from everyone at the party, Cath sang a few numbers from the likes of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion... i almost forgot how beautiful her voice was until i heard her sing again... i had tears welling up in my eyes... she's really matured as a person and as a singer and i wish her every success in life... love u long time Cath and thanks for letting me be a part of ur very spesh celebration *hugglez*

photos r courtesy of CC... there's more on facebook!!

after a stopover at the casino, i crashed at CC's place for the nite... even though we got home around 1ish, i didn't sleep 'til 3:30am 'cause i stayed up talking to this guy who also plays APL poker... woke up around 11:30 and after chatting on the net for a bit, CC and i had brunch b4 we started getting ready for CC's Easter Sunday dinner... CC took care of the food while i took care of the creative side of things [namely, making and decorating the Easter baskets hehe]... watched a lotta TV b4 pplz started showing up and after what seemed like eternity, we got to the dinner table and we all got to make and eat rice paper rolls as well as eat some nice Sara Lee cheesecake... also played a pretty fun game of Cranium, went on a late nite Easter egg hunt around CC's front and backyard and played poker whilst watching "300"... i won $3 in the end w00t w00t thanks to CC for letting me crash and for organising this splendid gathering and to Taiki for driving me home... and so sorry for getting u a little lost hehe

my plans for the rest of my holz? 2 more b'day parties, work, study for my PSYC2010 exam, research for my LAWS3111 assignment and gym... and hopefully i get to slot in some time to get my hair done as well... i haven't done anything to my hair for nearly 6 months now!!

and to live up to the name of today's blog, here r some random ramblings:
~ normally i don't ever remember my dreams but last nite, i had a dream that me and Mr Sparkle were a couple... even though i've never talked to the guy in my life and i've only ever seen him 3 times, the feeling i got after i woke up today was really nice and it put a big smile on my face... it's been a while since i've felt that way... and b4 i get bombarded with msgs of "OMG, who is this Mr Sparkle?! u've never told me about him" etc etc, i don't like him nor do i have a crush on him =P

~ a thought crossed my mind today as i was checking my facebook... for those of u who dunno, facebook's recently updated their privacy settings allowing us to control who sees what on our profiles... i dunno about other pplz but it's things like this that make me think that nobody trusts anyone anymore... and it's a little ironic 'cause we kinda put it on ourselves... we risk trusting other pplz, they lose the trust and 'cause of that, we get wary and cautious of pplz we know now and in the future... i just find it quite sad... then again, who am i to talk?! i trust very few pplz nowadays

~ just finished watching ep 17 of
最美麗的第七天 and the situations r so sad... after watching it, i'm REALLY hoping there's at least one happy ending here... especially for TVB Mr Sparkle and Niki... they've done so much for each other... [SPOILERS AHEAD...] she went all across Japan to look for him and stayed by his side even though she was sick and he bought her all 4 commitment rings and even designed her dream house... [END OF SPOILERS] it's just really, really, ridiculously sweet *sighs* btw Beckie, TVB Mr Sparkle's real name is 鄭嘉穎 [Kevin Cheng] hehe

~ i had a look at some of the personality traits of my birth month and a few of them were quite intriguing...

SEPTEMBER:
Suave and compromising. Careful, cautious and organized. Likes to
point out people's mistakes. Likes to criticize. Stubborn. Quiet but able to talk
well. Calm and cool. Kind and sympathetic. Concerned and detailed.
Loyal but not always honest. Does work well. Very confident. Sensitive.
Thinking generous. Good memory. Clever and knowledgeable. Loves to look for
information. Must control oneself when criticizing. Able to motivate
oneself. Understanding. Fun to be around. Secretive. Loves sports, leisure
and traveling. Hardly shows emotions. Tends to bottle up feelings. Very choosy, especially in relationships. Systematic.

i think i've blabbed on for long enough today... take care everyone!!

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

to coincide with this current obsession i'm having with anything dance-related, i watched "Strictly Ballroom" today...

it's been a while since i've watched this movie but after watching it again today, it really struck a chord with me... for those who've never seen, let alone heard of the movie, it's about a dancer who's tired of being told what steps to dance and finds inspiration to dance his own steps... and of course, along the way, he falls in love with his dance partner... i reckon the way the leads fall in love with each other is so sweet... there's no need to add sex or long scenes of kissing to know that there's chemistry... my fave part of the movie is definitely the scene where they dance to the song "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps" by Doris Day... makes me wanna find someone i can dance all my dances with *sighs*

You won't admit you love me
And so how am I ever to know?
You always tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

A million times I've asked you
And then I ask you over again
You only answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't wanna wind up
Being parted, broken-hearted

So if you really love me
Say yes, but if you don't dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...
